Originally titled Su (s)Figau, this theatrical production by Mauro Massa, a young Sardinian actor and close friend of mine, was later renamed Elogio alla sfiga. The title plays on the Sardinian word “Figau,” which means “liver,” but when altered to “sfigau,” it refers to someone who’s unlucky or, as in the Italian term “sfiga,” embodies bad luck. This concept was key to the poster design.
Mauro wanted the poster to evoke a sense of intrigue without giving away any details of the actual performance, preserving the element of surprise for the audience. To achieve this, I incorporated various symbols traditionally associated with bad luck, but without directly referencing the plot. The goal was to create an engaging and mysterious visual identity that piqued curiosity without revealing too much.
